PBESS OPINIONS:— A publication which we gladly welcome is Parkinson's Stab Almanack and West Coast Dereotory. for 1899, which is certainly a miniature library in itself, and should find its way into the home of the i settler, the office of the commercial man, I and the shop of the tradesman. Containing about 400 pages, the publication gives in condensed form information that it is of the utmost importance to the farmer, the ' dairyman, the gardener, and the agricul- ' turist, whilst the sporting man will find much that is interesting. Complete directories of all the towns, large and small, on the coast, have been revised to date, and the principal statutes of last and preceding years are given in concise and intelligible form. As usual, the printing of the Almanack reflects the highest credit on the Hawbba Stab staff. The publisher is to be complimented on keeping well up to the standard a publioation that has for the past sixteen years been popular with the public, and which is likely to remain so. — Taranaki News. The Hawbba Stab Almanack and West Coast ■ Dibectobt. continues to grow in usefulness year by year, and has now become quite indispensable to the trader, and indeed it should find a place in every household, town and country. Among the new features of the Almanack for 1899 is a condensation of the principal statutes, also revised official records and statistics. The directory includes the coast from Mokau to the Manawatu, and will be found very complete. It is a highly creditable production, being admirably compiled and neatly printed. — Taranaki Herald. We have received from the publishers a copy of the Stab Almanac for 1899 *• (published at the office of the Haweba Stab). It is now 16 years since the first issue of the Stab Almanack was printed, and from that time to this it has grown in size and importance in proportion to the progress of this coast till now it has attained the dimensions of a good-sized book. The present number is an improvement on former years by reason of a large quantity of added matter of the utmost interest to the public generally. For instance the compilers have been fortunate in obtaining the most up-to-date offtoial records which have been carefully condensed and tabulated in readable form, included amongst which are tables giving the recent Government valuations, both provindally and in districts, stocks, crops, education, in fact, figures bearing Upon almost everything are provided. Another feature is a condensation of the principal statutes, both of past years and 1898, including the Old Age Pensions, Dairy Industry, Stock Amendment, Municipal Franchise, and other Acts. There is also a large fund of invaluable information to the farmer, the dairyman, the gardener, and the agriculturist. Great pains have been taken to make the directory complete, tohioh now extends from the Manawatu* district to Mokau, whilst a completecalendar and dairy will be found useful to all. In addition to those already mentioned, the following are amongst the items it contains :— Complete garden calendar, , information as to sowing and reaping, breeder's and dairyman's tables, regulations, relating to fishing, shooting, etc., postal and telegraph guide, Customs tariff, historical events in New Zealand history, etc., etc. The book contains nearly 400 pages, and forms a miniature reference library in itself.— Wanganui Chronicle. The Hawbba Stab Almanac for 1899, which is just published, shews continued enterprise on the part of the proprietor as the volnme growß year by year in bulk and utility. This year the enlargement takes the form of most useful preoes of the principal statutes effecting ordinary daily life, and official records for -reference. The direotory takes in the coast from Mokau to Manawatu, and appears on comparison to be very complete and well up-to-date. The possession of the volume has lbng been a Am qua non with all country settlers, as well as town dwellers, and this year's production will be found to be more In^ispenaible than ever. The work is a credit to compiler and printer alike, as well as to the office from which it is published. — Patea County Press. We have received from the publishers a Copy of the Stab Almanac for 1899 ' (published at the Haweba Stab office). The Almanac has now been published annually for 16 years, and has grown from a very little thing to a large sized book as the district has advanced in importance. The present number is a vast improvement on former years, a large quantity of matter of the utanost interest to the public generally having been added. For instance, the compilers have been fortunate in obtaining the most up-to-date official records which have been carefully condensed and tabulated in readable form, included amongst Which are tables giving the recent Government valuations, both provincially ■ and in districts, stocks, crops, education, in fact figures bearing upon almost everything are provided. The book contains nearly 400 pageß and is a miniature library in itself. — Waimate Witness. We, have to thank Mr Parkinson for a copy of (he Stab Almanac and Dibbctoby.
