Over 400 quarter-acre seotions are to be sold in Stratford shortly.

The Hospital authorities desire to thank Slk James Lowrie for a case of froit sent by him for the use of patients. Mr Lowrie, who was for some time himself a patient in the institution md was delighted with the attention paid him, adopts a practical way of expressing bis acknowledgments and bis desire for tbe welfare of other patients.

Speaking on the drink question at Oamaru the other evening the Rev. E. Walker, secretary to the Alliance, said that as the result of a recent visit there he had come to the conclusion there was not so much drink consumed now in tbe Olutha as under tbe old regime when licenses were gran tad • Th ere was, it was true, a good deal of sly grog-solling going on, but would easily be exterminated if tbe authorities chose.

At last meeting of the Patea West Road Board (the Press reports) tbe ohairman notified tbe Board tbat in pursuance of instructions from last meeting, he bad arranged a meeting with Mr Maxwell, and that on Thursday, 24th January, Messrs McCarthy, O'Sullivan, and himself met Mr Maxwell at Manutahi and discussed the question of road to Manutabi station. It was resolved to allow Mr Lowry a refund of ten shillings for damage done to grass on roadway. At a general meeting of the Hawera Dramatic Club, held in tbe Town Hall on Monday night, it was decided to commenoe the next season with the oomedv "London Assurance." Tbe following officers were elected for tbe year '.— President, 0. E. Major, Esq. ; vicepresidents, E. L. Barton, Esq., and J. W. Kelly, Eeq. Mr Warden, whilst retaining the poet ot horn treasurer to the club, resigned the secretaryship owing to lack of necessary time, and Mr F. F. Godfrey was|eleoted bon. sec Tbe term of Mr Ghas.
