Gathering up its cold from the mountain the storm burst upon our oamelias, geraniums, qhimneys, and made a miscellaneous assortment of the lot. All Sunday night Bleep was out of the question, as all we oould do was to speonlate bow soon we and our houses would reaoh the Pacific. However* Monday dawned and still found us moored rooking .at our anchorage. Cattle must have felt it more severely. On Wednesday the night was fine and clear, and the Anglioans held their tea in St. John's Hall. The average supporter of any church now-a-days requires a lot of bam and jam and tableaux before lie relinquishes bis eighteenpenoe. (All these were there galore. Mr Ezra Brook, the talented organist of St. Mary's, New Plymouth, very kindly gave biß assistance, and two ladies from our capital also helped. A large audience were most i appreciative of the mixed programme. Chess ia evidently making many friends oo tbe coast, aod the Bangitikei Club, Marton, propose a Chess Association between Wellington and New Plymouth inclusive. Our little olob play Marton by wire next week, five men a side being proposed. After a very pleasant evening's play New Plymouth beat us at chesß by 7 to 4. A return match is certain.—- June 22.
