Sib,— Would yon kindly insert in yonr paper, for the benefit of your subscribers and electors iv this district, the enclosed newspaper report of evidence given by Mr JV.Bussell during the enqairy by judge Williams into the affairs of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. He said— "In 1891 the colony narrowly escaped the greatest financial crash that it bad ever experienced. It was very doabtfai whether any financial institution in New Zealand oonld have survived. ■ The Ballance Government came into power just then,- and the crash was averted. 11 — I am, &c, . . . Ohas. [To prevent misapprehension, we ought to say that the referenoe to the Ballance Government was not part of the evidence, bat the comment of a news* : paper which supported the Ballance i Government/ The comment may or may | not be justified, that is a matter of opinion, 1 bat oar correspondent fails to distinguish ■ between Mr Russell's evidence and the I newspaper comment. — Ed. , — _ —
