WELLINGTON, September 28. The statement of assets and liabilities in the estate of Alfred J. Kirk, of Hawera, who was arrested in Auckland on the eve of his departure for San Franoisco, show tbat his debts (all unsecured) amount to £1498, the total assets being £720. The largest creditors are J. Nathan, and Co., Wellington, £649 ; Cock and Co., Nelson, £200; Anderson and Co., Dunedin, £90 ,* David Hay, Oamaru, £158; J. Kitchen and Co., Wellington, £49; Oastendyke, and Co., Wellington, £40; Hogan and Co., Wanganui, £50; A. H. Nathan, Auckland, £46- The bankrnpt was examined privately by the Official Assignee. He said that about tbe 17tb May he sold out his bakery business, plant, and stock at Hawera for £947. The proceeds, less commission, be paid into his bank, where he had an overdraft of £250. On the Bth July, be re-entered business at Hawera as a grooer, purchasing the place for £300, of which he paid £50 deposit. About tbe 29th Angast, as he failed to complete bis purohase, be forfeited his deposit, and bad to gait tbe premises. He then sold off his stook to Mr Sutton for £300, collected £30, and set out tor Auckland. He was stopped at Midhirst by a creditor named Connell, whom he satisfied by payment on acoount. Then he went on to Auckland, where he was arrested. The bankrupt declares his book debts to be worth £500. The amount of cash iv the bands of tbe Offioial Assignee is £280.
