A meeting of the general committee of the exhibition is to be held to-morrow eveniDg when a statement of accounts will be submitted, and tbe affair wound up as far as possible. A deputation waited on the Mavot of Chrißtchurch on Tuesday and represented that great hardships were experienced by a number of men with families, who were unable to get work. Mrs Hale, wife of the teacher of the Egmont Eoad Sohcol, died suddenly on Wednesday from apoplexy, induced by a fright. It appears (the Taranaki News reports) a Maori went to her and aßked her to go to his wife, who was dying, and the sadden shock caused her to (all down in a fit, from wbioh she never recovered consciousness, Now and again reports are ciroulated about phenomenally big pumpkins, potatoes, &0., but an agricultural fact gathered from the Manaia Town District is worthy of record. The Board of that flourishing little town collects £31 10s per annum for grazing fees of 42 cows, which are depastured on the Board's reserves, which comprise an area of three-quarters of an acre. — Correspondent. In the course of his leoture last nighi the Rev. Mr Morley took oocaoion to remark upon the public press of Hawera. During his couple of weeks .visit to the district he had been a careful reader of the newspaper, and he must say that it was very creditable to the distriot, and its style and tone were fair and consistent. We may reasonably feel pleased at such remarks oomiog from so oapable a critic We understand that Mr Osmond who has so Buooessfully represented the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society in this district tor some time past, is now going to Melbourne to make arrangements for the investment of some large boobs of money for his sooiety in the Teranaki Province. In ths event of a large sum of money being lent out by this sooiety it should tend to bring down the prevailing rate of interest. A Dunedin Press telegram says an express train was derailed at St Leonard's, but fortunately only the engine left the rails. The passengers reached town at 10.30. The Palmerston train bad passed over the same spot half ac hour before, therefore there is little doubt that there was deliberate shifting of the points. The train happened to be a few minutes in advance of its time, wherefore the driver slowed down before reaching the town, which he approached at the slowest pace for two years. The passengers apeak in the highest terms of the driver's coolness. Mr Donald Morrison, of Normanby, writes : — I wish, through the columns of your valuable paper to tender my heartfelt thanks to Dr O'Carroll and staff for the skill and kindness with which I have been treated during my stay in the New Plymouth Hospital. I entered that institution with a completely chattered limb, No one who witnessed the ghastly sight doubted for a moment but that I would lose it.
