There appears to be no doubt (says the Manawatu Times) that some Jtraatio is at large in Waituna. A sbort time ago it was reported that be had fired shots at tents occupied by parties! and it is now stated that on Monday week he again fired over a tent occupied by a party of seven, and afterwards went round the tent, feeling for their bodies through the canvas. On Wednesday be fired at a tent occupied by a roadman, Daebles, who saw him and threatened him with an axe.but he returned and again fired. Mr Deebles states that he appeared to be either a Maori or a hall-oaste, with very little clothes on, and judging by the tracks of his naked feet, must have been a large man.

It is stated that the Eight Hours Bill which tbe Minister of Education intends to introduce next session will' provide for the creation of an eight hoars' working day in the various trades. For the purposps of the Act the colony will be divided into districts 00-terminous with the present educational districts, and tbe various factory inspectors are to be appointed registrars in the districts, whose business will be to enrol members of each trade on separate rolls. On receiving a petition from,, say, 50 workers in any trade, tbe registrar must hold a poll to bring tbe Act into force, and if such poll be favourable eight hoars will be declared legal day for that particular trade in that particular district.
