The Education Board met on Wednesday.

It was resolved to instruct the architect to call for tenders for the new school at East Eoad, and for additions to the Cardiff Koad School. FUNDS. On Mr. Allsworth's motion, seconded by Mr. Teed, it was resolved— " That in view of tbe yearly increasing difiioulty the botud has m finding funds to overtake the demand for new buildings urgently required to keep pace with tbe rapid extension of settlement, and consequent increase of population in districts entirely without school buildings, the attention of tbe Government be specially directed in the board's annual report, to the urgent need for exceptional provisions being made to meet their case, which, owing to unformed roads, and land being all bush land ib especially urgent in Taranaki. The board would farther call the attention of the Government to the unfairness to newly settled districts of allocating the building grant,upon the population basis."

NEW SCHOOLS.

A letter was received from the ohairman of Stratford Sohool Committee enolosing circulars signed by the chairmen of the Stratford. Ngaire, Cardiff, and Tarata Committees, suggesting that the board bnild no more new schools, unless an average attendance of twenty-five be guaranteed ; that all schools with a lobs average attendance than twenty-five be made half-time schools, unless funds are raised locally to make up the deficiency ; and that no more money be taken from capitation for new buildings. It was decided to acknowledge the circular, and to inform the Stratford Committee that the board deals with each application on its merits, as irom the physical formation of ihe distriot it is impossible to follow any general rale.— News.
