WEDDING.

An event wbioh excited some interest in Hawera waa the marriage of Mr. W. E. Butler (well-known in raping circles) to Miss M. E. Beany (a cousin of Mrs. T. J. Howard, late of tbe Commercial Hotel, and musically well-known), which wascele. brated at the Boman Catholic Ohnrob, by the Very Rev. Father Malvihill, on Mon* day morning. Tbe Church was crowded with friends of the couple. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. J. T. Kennedy, of Waverley, and the bridesmaids were Misses E. Beany (sister of tbe bride) and Nanghton. The bride, who was given away by Mr. T. J. Howard, was attired in a canary brocaded silk dress, with cream bat to match, and carried a handsome bonqnet. The bridesmaids looked extremely well, Miss Be&ny wearing a terracotta skirt, and cream satin bodice trimmed with Irish point lace ; and Miss Naoghton a grey dress, with grey bat trimmed with grey flowers. Gold brooches set with pearls (presents from the groom) were aleo worn by the maids, each of whom held a lovely bouquet. At the conclusion of the marriage ceremony the organist (Miss Flyno) played Mendelssohn's Wedding Marob ; and tbe happy couple were acoorded the orthodox shower of rice from the ehnrch to tbe cab in wbioh they were driven home. Over fifty guests sat down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast at tbe residence of Mr. T. J. [ Howard, to which full justice was done. Several speeches were made, and tbe wishes expressed were heartfelt as to the future prosperity of Mr. and Mrs. Butler. Tbe presents were numerous and costly. St. Joseph's choir testified to tbe bride's services by tbe presentation of a handsome cruet-stand, suitably engraved ; the bride's mother wa3 tbe donor of a tea and coffee service ; Mr Milmoe was responsible for many fine sifts ; Mrs Clarke (who, by the way, assisted materially in carrying out the arrangements successfully) added a beautiful present to tbe list ; and numerous valuable gifts were Bent from well-wishers in the town and district. After tbe breakfast, games (inoluding tennis and oroquet) were indulged in, and all enjoyed themselves in a hearty manner. Tbe happy couple left by the 1.50 train for New Plymouth, where they spend a few days; and their send-off from the station waß very enthusiastic, rice and good wishes being liberally extended to them. In tbe evening, over one hundred guests w«re again entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Howard. The grounds were illuminated by Chinese lanterns, and a charming spread was arranged under a large tree in the garden. Games were played in the moonlight; whilst inside, dancing, singing, etc., were oarried on with vigor. Tbe wedding will long be remembered in Hawera as that of a most popular young couple.
