Primitive Methodist Conference.

Bellrioger, of New Plymouth, expressed derided- views againßt receiving money from Home to carry on mission work in the colony, and he hoped the Jubilee in Ifow Zealand would find them independent and relying on their own resourcesfor carrying out the work of the extension. Settlement in the North Island will bring additional olaims, and funds must be considerably augmented. He referred to tbe decadence of power and influence of local preachers, which be thought was caused by a want of appreciation of their efforts. He still held tbe opinion that the Metho. diet Union was undesirable, and spoke of the importance of joining hands with every ■gene; for the complete overthrow of tbe liquor traffic. The following is the first draft of Stations :— New Plymouth, Bey J. Nixon ; Stratford, J Clover and W. J. Wood ; Auckland, James Gray, J. H. Hayward (2), W. 8. Potter ; Thames, J. A bill for the payment of members will be brought before tbe House of Commons at tbe first opportunity. Some members are terribly run over this project. Can we wonder ? Was there ever a member of Parliament who did not serve his country and bis constituents at a vast saorifice ? When it is pasßed every solicitor's olerk with a taste for teaching (he mob will have a new profession opened for him. It has been stated that members were not readily forthcoming at tbe late election. Will they not flock in crowds when our public men are paid like civil clerks, as well as honored as M.P. The world will have new openings for its sons.— European Mail.

Ac a meeting the committee of the Canterbury A. and P.
