Tbe Mayoral election today caused considerable excitement, and was hotly contested, both sides working hard. . Some surprise was expressed at the large majority secured by Mr. Bell, the general opinion having been that the result would have been pretty closp. The following are tbe numbers:— H. D. Bell, 1405; Geo. Fisher, M.H.E., 572. Majority for Mr. Bell 833. , o DDNEDIN. December 2. Tbe Mayoralty election resulted as follows:— Chas. Haynes, 938; H. S. Fish, 753 ; Chapman, the present Mayor, 166.
