« "Wednesday, November 30th, 1892. (Before Messrs. Nolan and Parkinson, . J.'eP.) SUBETIES OF THE PEACE. C. M. Matthews prayed for sureties of the peace as against John Meech. The evideuoe of Mr. Matthews was that on f 26th October, when leaving the B.M. Court, where he had been professionally engaged in a case against Meecb, the latter aooosted him, and, using bad language, laid, «• I will give you a doing one of these daya"; and that when Mr. Matthews tnrned to go into the court again to lay an information defendant twitted him with having no witness. The defence was a denial of the words charged in the information, and defendant's counsel, Mr. Hutchison, urged that defendant had not been guilty of conduct which brought him Within the seotionß under whioh proceedings were taken. Mr. Matthews said that be was largely inflaenoed in taking the proceedings by having heard that defendant bad to other people made threats in c reßpeet of him, but be called no evidence on the point. The Bench agreed that professional men must be protected in the performance of their duty, but held that, - m the evidence only disclosed a solitary outburst of temper on the part of defendant, Ww« not safitaient to Buppott the declaration of complainant that he feared defendant would do bitn some bodily barm. Defendant waß therefore discharged with a oantion as to bis future conduct, •nd an application on his behalf for costs was refused, on the ground that it was pwing to his own misoonduct that be had boen proceeded against. Frei.— Claim for JBll 2s 6d, goodß sold, etc Judgment lor plaintiff by default. Same v. Sykes.— £l 15s. Judgment Major v. Mutu.— Claim for £2 2s, ■ervicee rendered. Plaintift Btated that defendant camp to him about a land sale transaction at Polhill's Gully, Wellington, and that he wrote certain letters, sent a telegram, and did other work on defendant's request and instructions, letter book showing copies of the letters waß put in. Subsequently, in Wellington, defendant revoked his anthority.or rather repudiated having given any authority. C. B. Bayley swore that defendant came to' him and asked biro to do the work, but he was too busy, and he took him to Mr. Major, whom Mutu instructed to do the Work. The defendant swore that be had not authorised Mr. Major to do any work tot him, and that he bad not; asked Mr. Bayley to do any work for him. On the contrary, Mr. Bayly had followed him aboat, and took him to Mr. Major's office, and said Mr. Major would write to Weilington for him.
