SHEEP MANAGEMENT.

k Mr. G. W. Gane, Oaonui, Opunake, has sent the following to tbe Auckland News:— There has been a great cry, ana truthfully so, that i tbere has been great mortality amongst , young sheep, hoggets chiefly, luogworm being the cause. There is no disease without a remedy, and I give my experience with sheep while these losses are taking place. On tbe Btb of March, 1890, I bought some crossbred ewes and a purebred Romney Marsh ram from Mr. E. Maxwell, of Oaonui, be being a breeder of pure-bred Eomneys. I put the ram with them the same day, and tbe result was I got first-rate lambs, dipping 2s 6d worth of wool, and the wethers I sold for 7s 6d per head shorn, I keeping the ewes. I never lost one. In 1891 1 got good lambs. The wethers I sold, netting me 10s per bead, I keeping tbe ewes, and again I have not lost a head of them, while my neighbors have lost hnndreds, and my four-tooth and hoggets are pronounced by sheepownere as looking well. I attribute such good healh to probably the breed and changes of paddocks with very short feed. I have not bought any sheep at any auction, and, as my sheep are grazing alongside tbe pnblio roads in my paddocks, they are to be seen daily, and they ha.ye never had artificial food. I may state that I was carrying three sheep to the BOW. mmmmmm — m L mmm ll m^i m
