The House,, by 26 to 19, agreed to the second reading of the Publio Bevmnpi Bill, which releases £476,ooo of guaranteed debentures now deposited in the Bank of England as seourity for payment of interest, and 'authorises tbe wsne of £450,000 of debentures to be retained in the hands ol the Agent' General. After tbe debate extending over five hourß, the second reading of the Land and, Assessment; Amendment Bill was agreed Ito'on the voioeß. • Tbe Premier said that SirG.'Grey'B ameridment to exempt all > improvements would mean a lobb of i £88,000 and tbe Government could not accept' so serious an alteration in their ..'finance^.. Mr. Ballance has introduced tbe raymint" of' Members Bill, and a Bill for ". de^ositingofseoorities by foreign insuranoe companies. Th 6 Land for Settlement Bill bas passed its final stages in tbe House. The Hinemoa with legislators arrived frbmiWestport at 10 o'clock this morning, after a stormy passage. The»,Paymept to Members Bill is to be introdnoed by message from Government this afternoon. It is identical with tbe meadure which passed the Houbo last session, but rejeoted by Oounoil and provides feewthent of £240 per annum for membersof - ififeHoase; and£lsOfor LegislativeOourioilijrs.
