AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS FOR WEST COAST (N.1.), 1891 AND 1892.

We present below a table of tbe agricultural statistics of the counties named for tbe year ended Pebruary, 1892. It will be seen that the harvest as a whole bas been much more favorable in 1892 than in 1891, although the area of grain has been much less this year than last. In round numbers there were 6700 asres under cereals in 1892 against 9300

in 1891 ; the gross production being 257,000 bushels in 19a2, againßt 282,000 in 1891. The J* exage yield per acre of cereals in ilo2 was 38 3 bUßhels in 1891 only ab"3 baßhels per acre. Within the ,^ir counties under notice the area unSerwheat laßt year was much the same as in the previous year, but the area under oats came down from 5500 acres to a little under 3000 acres. The average yield of wheat in 1891 was* 30* bushels, and in 1892 40 bushels ; oata yielded 43 bushels per acre in 1892, against 30 m 1892. These are very much more satisfactory results upon the whole, and those farmers who Bowed grain should have fair profits, taken all round. The total number of holdings shows but little variation — in fact, the totals for this year in the four counties under notice were 1686, against 1894 in 1891. The area under sown grasses grows steadily, the increase being about 17,000 acreß for the yea? ; but it is necessary to bear in mind that there was a falling off of about 2500 acres in the area under grain, and a decrease also of about 1000 acres in the area under turnips and rape. The subjoined table gives details of each county side by side with the results of the agricultural census of the previous year which, however, was taken in April :—: —
