Manaia Presbyterian, Church. INDUCTION OF THE FIRST RESIDENT MINISTER.
A. fairly representative gathering of the members and adherents of the Presbyterian Church at Manaia took place on the occasion of the service in connection I with the introduction of the Bey. A. McLennan aB the first minister in charge of the newly-erected district. After the usual devotional exercises, a short account of the way in which the ohange was brought about was given by Eev. McGregor, who expressed a hope that the new duties and new privileges would be properly appreciated by the congregation. He then addressed the Fey. A. MoLennan, saying that official usages in the church required that certain pointed questions relating to matters of faith and church government should be answered by him in a definite manner in the presence of the congregation. A Berieß of questions were then put and answered, and the Bey. McGregor called upon the Bey. Doull to perform his part of the ceremony. Mr. Doull then delivered his charge, which was very much to the point and was listened to with great attention. His charge had evidently been carefully prepared, and it was delivered with doe regard to the impoitatfjfb of the subject and cf necßßsifcy oi impressing upon tbe minister a Bense of the weight ot the duties
he was undertaking. $ .„** The Rev. Gordon addressed t|i* /c<n§gregation npon tbe dnties tbe members and adherents owe to the minister. He^did not hold that tbe duty was all on one side, but thought that tbe way in which a con* gregation discharged its duties to the minister decided largely the success or otherwise of the minister's exertions on behalf of the church. He was far from hold that ministers should not "be paid a fair salary, as he believed that tbose^who preached the gospel should live by the gospel. He trusted that in many little ways m which their kindly feelings would instruct them they would remember their minister and help him to be an efficient messenger of the gospel.
