THE TARIFF.

Resolved, that the following duties of Customs shall, on and after the 30th day of May, 1888, bo charged :— Ale, porter, beer of all sorts, cider and sherry in bulk, at the rate of duty of Is Gd the gallon (instead of Is 3d) ; aerated and mineral

Resolved, That in the evenc of any of the duties hereby imposed not being confirmed, or of reductions being made in rates specified above, the amounts levied, collected, and paid in excess of tbe duties that may be imposed by the Customs Act based in these resolutions, sball be refunded.

EXEMPTIONS.

Resolved, tbat the duties of the Customs now charged on tbe undermentioned articles shall cease and determine — namely, artists' canvas colors, brushes and pallat knives, ash timber, unwrought brass tubes, blind tape, bolts and nuts under £in. in diameter, bags, seamless calico, braids, buttons, tapes, wadding, pins, needles, and such minor articles required in the making up of apparel; boots, * shoes, hats, caps, saddlery, may be enumerated in an; order of the Commissioner of trade and Customs, and published in the Gazette ; candle nuts and candle nut kernels, candle wick, carboard boxes ; materials for — namely, gold and silver paper, plain and embossed gelatine and colored papers known as box papers, carriage and cart shafts, spokes and felloes in the rough elm, hubs and poles if unbent and unplaned, children's boots, shoes, and slippers No. 0 to 3, cochineal, coil springs, cocoa, beans, cotton, piece goods and linen hollands invoiced at or under 5d the yard, dye stuffs and dyeing materials (crude), engineers' machine tools, glass makers' moulns. gum arabic and tragacanth gum, boots, iron and steel cordage, iron boiler plate and end plates for boilers, iron rolled girders, kangaroo skins undressed, locomotives, machinery for agricultural purposes; also materials for manufacturing tbe same — namely, reaper knife sections, fingers, brass and steel pins and till rakes, chaff-cutting knives, set screws, malleable castings, fittings for threshing mills, discs for harrows, forging ior ploughs, mould board plates and steel share plates cut to pattern, and skeith plates, machinery for dairying purposes, machinery for mining purposes, machinery for refrigerating and preserving meat, metal fittings for portmanteaux, travelling bags and leggings, metallic capsules, par§ sengers' baggage and effects, including only wearing apparel, jewellery and other personal effects that have been worn or are in use as personal ornaments by persons arriving in the colony ; also implements, instruments and tcols of trade occupation or employment of such persons, and household effects not exceeding LIOO in value used abroad for more than a, year by tbe persons or families bringing them to the colony, and not intended for any other person or persons or for sale ; also cabin furnishings belonging to such persons, perambulators, bicycles, tricycles, and like vehicles (fittings for) not otherwise enumerated, photographic cameras, portable engines, precious stones unset, rails for railways and tramways, rivets and washers of all kinds, steam engines (non-condensing, the area of whose cylinder or cylinders exceed 2500 circular inches, steam boiler tubes, 1000 circular inches), and condensing engines, the area of whose cylinder exceeds corrugated and welded flues and bowlings, expansion rings, steam fire enaines, shale, waste, or unrefined mineral oil, strychnine, mill, grind, oil, and whet stones, ship's rockets, blue lights, and danger signals, tacks of all kinds, tanning materials, crude umbrella silk and other fabrics when cut into pieces not larger than tbe size required for covering umbrellas, parasols and sunshades aud to be specially used for such purpose, upholsterer's imi« tation hair seating, brass, copper and lead, waterproof material in piece, box bottling yarn, flax and hemp.
