(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVEECAEGILL, May 26. It is reported that a seam of coal has been struck on the property of Mr. F. Bruoton, Rocklande, Fortrose, at a depth of 182 feet from the surface. Tbe trial borings have been going on for some time, and indications were pievionsly obtained j tbat good coal existed in small quantities. This last discovery is supposed to be worth working. WAIPUKAEAU, May 27. Mr. H. J. Baker, a brewer, well known at Napier, Wellington, and Auckland, was killed yesterday. He bad been on a visit to "Waipawa, and when in tbe act of mounting a borse, which he recently bought, was thrown heavily on bis head, lacerating his scalp dreadfully. He was rendered unconscious. He recovered Bhortly afterwards, but again relapsed, and died at one this morning. He was generally respected.
