In the House ot Commons, Lord Geo. Hamilton stated that the Russian squadron on the Pacific was far inferior, as regards numbers and^ptrength, to that of the Chinese squadron alone, and that the commander of the latter was perfectly satisfied as to the strength of his fleet. LONDON, May 11. The Rev. Kennion has declined the bishopric of Christchurcb. Mr. Dillon has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labor, on a charge of having advocated the plan of campaign in addressing a meeting at Dundock. Mr. Dillon gave notice of appeal. Captain Atwell, of H.M.S. Lake and formerly of H.M.S. Nelson, has been appointed commander of the new flagship Orlando. A cargo of Australian wheat sold at 83s 6cl. LONDON, May 12. The Chamber of Deputies has passed resolutions in favor of the immediate and unconditional abolition of slavery. SYDNEY, May 12. An ex-policeman named Porter has been arrested on a charge of attempted wife murder. It appears that accused had been keeping company with a woman at Newcastle, and had deserted his wife, who followed him from Adelaide. He persuaded him to go to Sydney with him, and when they arrived here he attempted to administer prussic acid on sweetmeats. The attempt proving unsuccessful, he threw his wife down, and tried to force the contents of the vial down her throat. NEWCASTLE, May 12. The Kreuz Zeitung Official, denying Prince Bismarck's peaceful predictions, sayß it must now be evident that Europe is an immense vo'cano, and that its outbreak is inevitable.
