WELLINGTON, January 24. The Government have finally decided to sell the Ministerial residences, and tenders are called for their purchase. Tbe conference of the New Zealand Temperance Alliance has concluded its sittings. The following resolutions were carried :— •' That this conference of representativae from the different lodges of tbe colony endeavor to secure the appointment of committees for the advancement of prohibition in the colony, and earnestly urge their friends in each Licensing district to form meetings and ■eoure votes in favor of no increase of licenses in tbe coming local option contestf."

WELLINGTON, January 25. Tbe Exhibition Commissioners have cabled to Melbourne to enquire if more ■pace can be granted for the New Zealand Court in the exhibition.

WEBTPORT, Janoary 25. A man, giving tbe name of John Gar. diner, was arreßted on tbe Boiler Eoad thirteen miles from Westport yesterday by Constable Borden, of Lvell. He is wanted for the sticking up case at tbe Birch Hill station, Marlborough. It is alleged that he entered the but of a man named Anderson, stole some money, and fired a revolver at Anderson. The prisoner answers the description, and admits being at the station on tbe day in question, but denies having bad any row there. He will be remanded to Blenheim.
