+ (FBEBB ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, January 24. The s.B. Mariposa with English mails to 28th December, left San Francisco for Auckland on tbe 19th instant, three dayß late. The Zealandia with Colonial mails of the second instant arrived at San Francisco from Auckland, on 21st, one day early. CHRISTCHURCH, January 24. On Saturday afternoon, Wait's sawmill at View Hill, together with a house and stable belonging to Plaskett and a quantity of bush, was destroyed by fire. The township of Oxford was endangered about the same time by a fire which started in Weed'B bash. Rain, coming on about three o'clock, checked the flames, and prevented further damage. Nine of tbe buildings destroyed were insured. AUCKLAND, January 24. Tbe volunteers Lave decided to abandon the proposed visit of an Auckland team to the New South Wales centennial shooting competition, owing to the iaot that tbe meeting dashes with that to be held at Oamarn. HOKITIKA, January 24. Twenty silvermining leases of one hundred acres each have been applied for at Mount Raogitoto, and there is great excitement in the district about them. With 500 acres of freehold belonging to the Mount Rangitoto Silver Mining Company, there are now 2500 acres of silver country taken up. Mount Rangitoto is a mineral belt of country containing, among other ores, galena and lead, the former containing gold, and both rich in silver. The last piece assayed by Professor Black contained at tbe rate of 88 ounces of gold to tbe ton of ore, besides the silver. It ib rumored that a Mount Rangitoto Silver Mining Company will be floated in London.
