WELLINGTON, January 21.
The Grand Lodge Degree was to -day conferred on Brother Lorn as. It was decided to hold the next conference in Christchurch. It was resolved that, the two Grand Lodges having now united, the lodge request the R.W.G.T to issue a charter to the Grand Lodge, such charter to bear the date of the first Charter issued. The following resolution was considered : — That this Grand Lodge is of opinion that the liquor traffic, as carried on by clubs, has a most injurious effect on the moral and social well-being of the community, and hereby instruct the Grarjd Lodge Executive, in connection with other temperance bodies, to take such action as they may deem necessary to obtain fresh legislation, so as to bring clubs UDdex the 'same supervision and control as licensed houses.:. A deputation was appointed to wait upon the Colonial Secretary, to protest against the re-establishment of distilleries in the colony. The executive were instructed to prepare and circulate petitions to Parliament, in favor of prohibition t The"conference decided that the time for instituting district lodges was premature, although they admitted that such lodges would prove a great advantage, and requested tbe executive to reportj-on the question next Grand Lodge-session.
