ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of prizes in the above school took place on Wednesday evening in tbe schoolroom in the presence of a large number of parents and friends of the scholars. Tbe room was crowded, many of those present being nnable to Becure 6eatß. His Worship the Mayor presided, and distributed the prizes at tbe close of the concert and dramatic entertainment.

The following programme was completed without hitch or difficulty, the proficiency of the performers eliciting frequent applause and general expression of approval. In the first part of the programme, the pianoforte playing of Mies EBpagne struck us as being decidedly above the average, and she promises to develops into a musician of superior merit. The duet song, •• Kiss me, mother, ere I die," by two little wee girls — Misses T. Gnnn and E. Flynn — was loudly applauded, as it was most accurately rendered, so far as tbe vocal range of tbe baby performers would permit. This was followed by a play entitled "Tbe school for daughters," in which fourteen of the female pupils took part, and acted with spirit and success. A stage had been rigged up at the end of the building, and nicely decorated and arranged for the convenience of the actresses. Dramatis persons : — Mrs Woodville, Miss N. O'Shea deserves special mention, the former having evidently dramatic talent, and being quite free from stage-fever. The latter also contributed greatly to the success of tbe piece.
