Considering that many of the pupils in the standards are very young, the result of the examination is very satisfactory, and Mr. Harre and bis assistants are to be congragulated on the result obtained. A requisition was being circulated and numerously signed this morning asking Dr. Alexander to offer himself as a candidate for the Mayoralty. No other candidate for the mayoralty haying come forward to contest the seat, Mr. G. E. Major has been declared duly elected for the third term of office. During the past week aotive efforts have been, made by ratepayers who desired a change to induce one or two well-known citizens to " give the present mayor a ran " for the office, but they each and all steadfastly declined, mostly on the grounds of urgent private business.
