LONDON, October 12. The enquiry into the circumstances of the death of persons killed during the disturbance which took place on Sept. 9th at Mitchelltown concluded to-day. The coroner's jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against the police inspector and five of the constables who were present at the riot. The Daily News states that the Government will most likely try to suppress the League throughout Ireland. The Agenta- General for the various colonies visited the Albert Docks to-day, for the purpose of inspecting the working of the electric tramcar and the electric launch. The party was afterward entertained at luncheon, at which Mr. Adye Douglas, Agent-General for Tasmania, made a speech, in the course of which he said that electricity had a great future before it in the colonies, and he boptd its application would aidin binding them closer to the Mother Country. The Police Court at Bow-street was rushed to-day by hundreds of indigent persons seeking parish relief. * LONDON, October 18. Mr. Chamberlan addressed a crowded
jubilee meeting at Belfast yesterday, and in the course of his speech demanded from Mr. Gladstone an exposition of his plans for Ulster under bis scheme for a settle-, ment of tbe Irish question. BERLIN, October 13. The Emperor William has sent a contribution of ten thousand marks to the fund for the relief of- the' sufferers by Cholera in Sicily. SAN FRANCISCO, Ootober 13. The United States' corvette Adams has been chartered to proceed to Samoa. MELBOURNE, October 14. An all-night sitting of the Legislative Afsernbly took place last night- owing to the stonewalling tactics of the Opposition when the estimates came up for consideration. The Assembly did not adjourn until 2 p.m. to-day, having sat since yesterday afternoon. SYDNEY, October 13. Sir Henry Parkes has assigned his estate. His liabilities are estimated to amount to £53,000, but are nearly covered by the assets. It is believed the action of the Premier in assigning his estate will not affect his official position. A new Land Bill, providing greater facilities for the acquisition of freehold homes by the humbler classes, was introduced in the Legislative Assembly to-day. (special to press association.) LONDON, October 18. General Banblau, who is implicated in the War Office scandal, has disappeared, and it is supposed that he has committed suicide. Several society ladies have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the scandal. Three hundred Russian subjects, disguised as merchants, have entered Herat, and the Governor has, in consequence, taken precautionary measures.
