NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR.

A very, general impression prevails at this end of the district that the New Plymouth harbor is rapidly silting up with drift sand. Mr. Corkill at the Harbor Board meeting on Wednesday is reported to have said : — " As far as he could learn, the dredge would not be necessary, for, as a matter of fact, there was more water now where the wharf was being built than there was three years ago, thus proving that that portion of the -harbor was not .silting up. He. did not think, therefore, that it would be advisable to send Home for another crane. The board could do very well without it until they saw whether the sand was likely to encroach near the wharf." It would be interesting to learn whether this statement can be substantiated, the large deposits of sand at the foot 'of the breakwater are unfortunately beyond question. The public would like to know is the sand extending or not?
