Redwood, and is by Towton (imp.), out of Certainty (dam of Dead Shot), by II Barbiere, Chance by Sir Hercules, Einesse. Vide Stud Book. Cocksttbe's half brother, Dead Shot, was one of the most successful sires on this coast, being sire of Mata, Pinfire, Chokebore, Shotover, Larry, and several others. Towton, full brother to the Peer and Marchioness (winner of the Oaks), was a most successful aire, leaving such performers as Tambourini, Lara, Korari, Puriri, Songster, Skylark, and Wai-i-ti (dam of Pusilade), Marchioness is grand dam o£ Spade Guinea. S.B , vol. iii , p. 34), by Operator, her dam Lady Matilda, by Bay Camerton, out of Miss Nettleton, an English thoroughbred mare imported to Australia from India. Castaway (N.Z 5.8., vol. v., p. 51), by Traducer, out of Mermaid, was n great performer on the turf himself, aud was full brother to those celebrated racehorses Malice, Lurline, Le Loup, aud Lure. Oas toff's stock are admitted to be the beet hacks in the district, while his sons, Ruapehu and Tongariro have been very successful on *th turf.
