Thursday, October 13. The Council met at 2.3. p.m. ASSORTED IMMIGRATION. The Hon Randall Johnson presented a petition from Gisborne in favor of assorted imtnigratiou. ADDRESS-IN-BEPLY. Sir. F. Whitaker brought up the report of the committee appointed to draw up the Address-in -Reply. Hon. Mr. Oliver moved that the adoption of the report be considered next day. EAST AND WEST COAST BAILWAY. Hon. Mr. Wateruouse asked the Attor-ney-General if the agreement for the construction of the East and West Coast Railway in the Middle Island, had been duly signed, and if not, under what circumstance, and under what understanding certain works in connection therewith have beeu commenced. Sir F. Whitaker, replying, said the only contract signed was in ;<1884 ; the work being pursued was being done under the agreement signed that 'year. SATURDAY SITTIN&. Sir Frederick Whitaker announced that, as the Imprest Bill and Revenue Bill were expected from the House next day, the Council Bhould lit on Saturday afternoon in order to dispose of the Bills and all other business before Parliament adjourned. He moved, That the Council, at its rising on Friday, adjourn to Saturday.
