We are not prepared to decline to do so, comment in connection with the circumstances having appeared in out columns. Tbe season for trout fishing in- Hawera district opens tomorrow. Up to the present only a few licenses have been applied for.

From a letter received in town we learn that at one time Mr. P. Galvin's life was .almost despaired of after his accident, bathe is now pronounced out of danger and- likely soon to recover. The injury, though known to be serious, was not understood to have been 60 nearly fatal as now appears.

Mr; Geo., Howe of Wanganui has ientered into arrangements with Mr. J. Meikle for faking over the Commercial jHotel. . The valuation of Btock and furniture has not yet been agreed upon, | butxent and other terms have been settled. Mr 7 Howe, we hear, was at one time landlord otthe Rutland Hotel Wanganui.

,A full attendance of Masons is requested at th^lod'ge meeting this evening. Tbe nominations for officers for the ensuing year 'will be received, and passingand raising will also have to be undertaken. With these important duties before them, every member of the order should make an effort to be present.

Mrs. Eobinson, who for the past four years has been favorably known as a dressmaker to many ladies in Hawera and the surrounding district, opens on Saturday in a general drapery business in the premises formerly occupied by Mrs. Dunne in Prin-ces-street. A new stock of fashionable goods has been procured, of which inspeciton is invited.
