OPUNAKE.

♦ (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The meeting re harbor matters called for Tuesday evening last by the Chairman ot the Town and District Committee was so th'nly attended that it was adjourned sine die. One would have imagined that after the recent agitation on the subject that a large and enthusiastic meeting would have been held, but many of those who were only too ready to use the subject to the detriment of one of the candidates in the receut contest for Parliamentary honors were conspicuous by their absence. The weather and the prevailing illness may shield them somewhat. On account of the evident indifference of settlers on the subject, several members of the Town Board considered it advisable to take the matter up, and they met accordingly on Thursday evening ; and having read the Opunake Harbor Board Bill through and discussed its provisions, made a few alterations, and determined to have the bill advertised in the Star, and brought forward in the House at an early date. This will be the third time that the bill will have been advertised, and the mem* bers of the Town Board, especially the Chairman of the Town and District Committee, deserve the thanks of the district for their action in the matter. On Thursday last the school was closed for the week on account of the small attendance, many of the children and the teacher suffering from influenza, which in very prevalent. The school committee hope that after the short recess the attendance of children will be nearer the average. On Thursday evening last a meeting of milk suppliers was held at the Dairy i Factory Company's office to discuss the subject of opening the factory. Mr. John Stevenson was voted to the chair. The object was briefly stated, viz., to discuss the subject of suppliers taking the factory and working it on co-operative principles. About twenty suppliers and others were I present, and the matter was fully discn>seil. The unanimous conclusion was that each one had made preparations for milking, having the cows and other appliances, and that a sacrifice could not be now made of them, and they could not do better than go on. The chairman invited those who were willing to join in cooperation to state so, when about fourteen of those preseDt signified their in« teution to go iuto the matter. At the conclusion of the general meeting these gentlemen met, and appointed a committee, consisting of Messrs. Anderson, J. Stevenson, McHardv, Williams, and O'Donnell, to arrange matters and to report to a meeting of the associated suppliers on Thursday next. It was agreed, to enable any supplier to join in co-operation, to keep the list open until Saturday. Several suppliers have taken advantage of this, and signified their willingness to join. It is to be hoped that this will be a happy solution of the difficulty. October 8.
