WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The following is a continuation of the report of the ordinary monthly meeting of the above board held at Manaia on Wednesday, September 28. Resolved, That members be asked to take around the petition for dividing into wards within the several districts for signature (Mitchell — Muir). CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION. Mr. H. W. Ellerm wrote, demanding £12 compensation for the loss of a draught lioree, alleged to have been killed through the bad state of the Glenn road, just above the Kaupokonui crossing. Resolved, That Mr. Ellerm's claim for £12 compensation for horse alleged to have been killed through bad state of Glenn road, be referred to the engineer, with instructions to report thereon to a special meetirjg next Saturday (Parsons — Forsyth). FALMER ROAD. Resolved, That Mr. Stockton be informed that the board has no money available for scrubbing Palmer road, blk. VII.; and also considers the time of year unsuitable, but that the request will be attended to when funds are available. GATES ON ROADS. Resolved, That Mr. D. McGregor be

Mr. Maunder, who owns land on one side of the Rowan road, was asked by the board to fell two chains of his bush alongside the road, which is now to be felled, and he replied that he was agreeable to pay for it being done. Resolved, That the board will undertake the felling of Mr. Maunders two chains of bush abutting on Rowan road, in terms of his letter of 14th September, and the engineer's letter of the 9th Sept. (Taylor — Muir). SKEET ROAD. A petition from residents on the Skeet road was received, asking for a small expenditure. Resolved, That the engineer call ftif tenders for draining and culverting in block XIII., Kaupokonui, Skeet road, along frontage of sections 24 and 25 (LeFleming — Godsal). engineer's report. Palmer Road — The late rainy weather has made the old horse ford over the stream which runs through sec. 108, blk. 11, Kaupokonui, broken and dangerous for horse traffic. On the road no ford has ever been forrred. This is the most dangerous spot in any of the bush roads now ander the board's control. Advised (1) That £5 be expended in improving crossings, co as to be'safe for horse traffic. (2) That £25 be laid out in stumping, clearing, and levelling from the Duthie road jnnction south to sec. 36. Duthie Road — Advised : That stumping on Upper Duthie road be proceeded with. "Waingougoro Brid»e, Opunake Road — The embankments have given considerably in places, owing to heavy rains. The work whs delayed through no fault of the contractor and rain into the rainy season. Advised : That a hundred willow stakes be driven around the toe of each embankment. The engineer said he had written to the foreman of the Ngaire Road Board asking that he would see to this. j Resolved, That the engineer's report, dated to-day, be adopted with reference to Palmer road and the protection of embankments at the bridge over Waiugongoro Opunake Stratford road. TAIKATU ROAD. Resolved, That £10 be spent by the engineer on Taikatu road. (Parsons — Godsal.) BANK BALANCES. The Treasurer reported that the deferred payment account was overdrawn £919 3s 9d, and the road board accouut £117 9a Id. OMUTURANOI ROAD. Resolved, That £5 be expended on the Omuturangi road in culverting opposite section 26. (Parsons — LeFleming.) 3KEET ROAD. Resolved, That £10 be expended between the Otakeho river aud the Mangawhero, on ditching and logging up. HONE ROAD. Resolved, That £6 be spent in draining and culverting Hone road. PATIKI AND WATINO ROADS. The Crown Lands Ranger reported to the Land Board on the board's proposals as follows : " On the Watino road I think it will be found necessary to do some draining on the enst side of the road lower down than marked in plan, viz., from about section 10 upwards. On the Patiki rond, I think the upper part should be improved before the luxury of gravelling is undertaken. . . From the Eltham road to about section 23 the road is in parts almost impassable for horse traffic." An adjourned special meeting of the board was held on Saturday, Ist Oct. Present — Messrs. Glenn (chairman), Parsons, Mitchell, LeFleming, Taylor, Muir, and Godsal. The question of the division of the district into ridings was again discussed, but no arguments were urged for or against other than those reported last week. Mr. Parsons asked and obtained permission to withdraw his seconding of the motion origically proposed by Mr. Glenn for the division of the district. He said he had changed his mind since last meeting as to the necessity of the proposed alteration. Leave granted. Mr. Mitchell said that he would second it pro forma, in order to allow of its discussion by the board. Resolved, That the matter of divisions into ridings be not proceeded with any further (Parsons — Godsal). Tbe Engineer wrote, stating that he could not undertake the double duties of engineer and clerk at £225 per annum, and tendering his resignation on this ground. Tbe resignation expressed pleasure at tbe cordial relations which he had been able to maintain during bis tenure of office with the members of tbe board. Resolved, That tbe resignation be accepted, and that applications be called by advertisement in Auckland, Wellington, and Hawera for the position of engineer and clerk at £225 per annum.
