THE POLITICAL POSITION.

The political position is becoming more complicated. Ministers have, as anticipated, asked for and been granted a dissolution. No conditions have been stipulated for, but it is always understood that such a grant is always subject to the House voting sufficient supply. It now appears that Ministers have determined to ask for six months supply. No one of any experience for a moment supposes that they will succeed in obtaining it. For they know well enough, that the House would object to granting supply for a day longer than is absolutely required. If Ministers asked for six months supply, they might obtain enough to carry on for three months ; but if they asked for four months supply, they fear lest it might be cnt down to two months. Ministers evidently think that there can be nothing lost by opening their mouth wide enough ; it leaves them so much the more margin to come and go upon. There is just now plenty of time at the disposal of the Miuistry and the House to wrangle over their respective rights iv the matter, and with two lawyers in tbe Ministry such a wrangle could be counted on with certainty. We anticipate that the House may grant three months supply, but we shall not be surprised if less, rather than more, is accorded. Our Parliamentary correspondent thinks the House might reassemble early in. September.

[Since the above was written it appears that the Ministry have only asked for supply up to the end of September, equal to four, not six, months, as first reported.]
