It is officially stated that the Crown Prince is suffering from a severe affection o! the throat. His medical advisers, however, state that the case admits of hope, and with care he will recover, though his illness will be a protracted one. NEW YORK, May 27. A fire occurred last night in the tramcar stables in this city, and fully 1600 horses perished in the flames. The buildings were completely gutted. SYDNEY, May 28. Mr. Wise has been appointed AttorneyGeneral vice Mr. Foster, resigned. (specJal to press association) LONDON, May 25. The Pope publishes a letter in which he refers to the strained relations between the Vatican and Italy. His Holiness expresses an earnest desire for a reconciliation, and maintains that his personal liberty would not injure Italy, while it would greatly contribute to the prosperity of the Papacy. " The report of the select committee appointed to enquire into the charges of corruption against the Corporation of London shows that nearly £20,000 were expended in the effort to mislead Parliament and the State as to the public feeling respecting the City of London Local Government Bill. Mr. Bradlangh has given notice of motion condemning the corporation for being guilty of gross corruption, and that their conduct deserves severest reprobation.
