WELLINGTON, April 19. An accident occurred on the Buller road, thirteen miles from Westport, this morning, ac a place where men are working, miking the road. OAMARU, April 20. An explosion of coal gas took place oa board the Omapere when she was about 40 miles from Oamaru on Monday morning. Tho Omapere was coming from Greymouth with a cargo of coal, and one of the hatches had been lifted for the purpose of getting out the coal geaiv' A inau approached with a lantern, and an explosion took place, several of the hatches being blown off. The first officer, who was standing over the hold, had his face very badly burnt and his whiskers singed off. One passenger also had his hands badly burnt. Ho damage was done to the steamer.

Thomas Lahy is the name of the man killed by a slip on the Buller road yesterday, and P. Dunn is the injured man. They were working with the object of bringing down a thirty feet face when it slipped without warning entirely covering Lahy and just catching Dunn. Lahy's body was CUt up into small pieces. He leaves a wife and ei^ht children at Duuediu. Dunn is progressing favorably.
