WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.

Wednesday. 23rd Februarx. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

The. ordinary monthly meeting was held at Manaia as above. Present — Messrs. Mitchell (in the chair), Davy, Heslop, LeFleming, Muir, and Parsons. PUKATAPU ROAD. Mr. Pearce attended and requested that £15 be. spent upon this road. Resolved, That the motion be held over until Mr. Forsyth be in attendance (Mr. Parsons— Mr. Muir). RESOLUTIONS RESCINDED. In pursuance of notices given at last meeting! the following resolutions were moved : — ■ Auroa road — That the resolution of Dec. 22nd re forming 20 chains Auroa road be rescinded, as the sum required is -not scheduled (Mr. Parsons — Mr. Davy). Ahipaipa road — That resolution of Dec. 22nd. re gravelling the lower part of Abipaipa road from Scott's road be reecinded (Mr. Heßlop— Mr. Mitchell). OEO BOAD. A petition signed' by Mr. Mortleman and from other settlers was received, asking that some work be done on this road. Besolved, That the petitioners be informed coat the engineer lias a] ready , been instructed to spend all the money available on this road (Mr. Parsons — Mr. Heslop). .... , HONE ROAD. Letter received from A. McKeaver, demanding that Hone road, Pihaiua, be gravelled. Held over until Mr. Forsyth is preeent (Mr. Parsons — Mr. Mitchell). '.. ' SKEET ROAD. A petition Bigned by Mr. S. Dawson and three others was received, asking tbat the sum of £40, at least, be granted for the cutting at Elliott's creek, block xiv., and stating that the sum of .£l5 is of no use. Besolved, That the petitioners be informed that all the money available for cutting at Elliott's creek is being spent, and that the £40 referred to aa»" thirds" proceeds from the pale of section. 17, block xiv., Kanpokonui, will be dealt with when received from Land Board (Mr. Parsons — Mr. Davy). NEW WORKS. The following new works, for which appears in schedule xv., were authorised to be let : — Patiki caady, xrr M Oqaaake — £4.0 to be spent fa gravelling as requested by fceJegrariKfrom Mr. Forsyth (Mr. Mitchell — Mr. Parsons). Hunter road —^3o to be spent in ditching, stumping, and culverting (Mr. Mitchell — Mr. Heslop). Normanby beach road, vi., Waimate — Gravelling' authorised to be done as soon as possible (Mr. Heslop — Mr. Mitchell). Eltbatn road — Cuttings east of Hastings road (Mr. Mitchell — Mr. Davy). ., .Hastings road — Gravelling at McL 1 - Dowie's. Hastings road — Formation and cutting at Cubbih's cutting. TENDERS. Resolved that action of members in accepting tenders on the 15th February be confirmed (Mr. Heslop — Mr. Mitchell).

The following tenders were received and dealt with :-288. — Skcet-Manganhero ford ■ and approaches. — Charles Elliott was the only tenderer, but as the price was considered too high, it was decided to call for fresh tenders.

289.— Skeet-Mangawhero Roads junction.— Charles Elliott (accepted), £4, and extra ditching at 6a 6d per chain ; Olson and Go. £15 10a, and 10s ; Thos. McGloin, £9 175, and 10s. 290.— Hokorima Road — Tenders were not considered the work being for the ' present withdrawn. 291. — Eltham Road (near Kaponga)— about 35 chains formation. — Dannie Murphey (accepted). £20 15s; J. Alexander, £26 55. " 292. — Nortnanby Road — Gravelling Okaiawa hill. — T. Simpson (accepted), £2 14s ; Thos. Joll, £2 17s ; Kearin and Wilson, £2 19s. .' 293. — Upper Hastings Road — Stump- - ing,- clearing, and leveling. — H. Linn (accepted), Is per chain ; Olson and Co. 10s; M. Deegan, 7s 9d. BANK ACCOUNT. The Treasurer reported balances as follows :— Ordinary occount, Dr. £108 2s 3d; Deferred Payment account, (since receipt of £1305), credit £527 3s 2d. Messi-B.' Mitchell and Davy were authorised to sign cheques for the meeting in place of Messrs. Glenn and Milne. STUMPS ON BOADB. Resolved that the engineer be empowered to employ men to burn timber on roads where directed (Mr. Heslop — Mr. Muir). > CONTBACT PENALTIES. Attention waß directed to the fact that the terms of contracts were constantly being injured by contractors taking far more time than allowed by the contract for finishing their works. It was understood that penalties should be enforced for the future. Mr. Michall contractor for approaches and Mr. Pepperel, the contractor under the Ngaire Board for metalling, waited upon the board. with reference to Waingongoro Opunakc Bridge approaches.

The Hawera Road Board wrote in reply to circular asking co-operation, requesting that a conference should be arranged to diicnsß the matter but it was decided, aa the matter was of great importance, to ask that board kindly to join the pther boards in the cost of instituting a case .against Government, costs to be divided pro ratp (Mr: Dayy — Mr. Mitchell.) , ( The JParikaka Road Board wrote agreeing to bear share of cost of action. ~- " ' BOLL TKANSFEES. Tfee following were consented to :—

A return by the Manaia Poundkeeper was read showing that Ranger Exley had only impounded stock on three occasions up to 16th February, since Nov. 3 and Ranger Tocker only on three occaßions since December 23rd. He supplied the return as requested. engineer's bepobt. The Engineer reported that Mr. Sheat was fencing the front of the Skeet road thus, cutting off the present track and ford and that £10 to £15 will be required to make a zig-zag track up the bank. He recommended a zig-zag cutting for the Mangawhero-Skeet ford as well. A large number of accounts were passed for payment.
