CORRESPONDENCE.

[We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents. To ensure publication, however, it will be necessary for writers to avoid personalities.] RAILWAY SURVEY. To the Editor of the Star. Sir, — It is exceedingly gratifying to learn that the Hon. Major Atkinson bas written to Mr. Perm. chairman of the Stratford Town Board, and that he is exerting himself respecting the survey of the connecting link which is to join as with the so-called Central Railway. Your Stratford and Ngaire correspondent also deserves the hearty thanks of the property holders on this coast for informing them without delay how energetically and successfully their worthy member continues working in their interests. It must, therefore, be a matter for general rejoicing for all those' who are interested at the rapid progress we have made since 1882, when this work of vital importance was hung up by the Atkinson Government, in order, it was said, to find the best route (which they found as difficult 1o discover as the North Pole).' Our member as Minister and Premier had the tide in big favor from 1882 to 1884, but, unfortunately for this district, he did. not take advantage of it. Shakespeere well says, "And we must take the current when it serves or loss our. venture." . Politically and financially we have lost the tide, an 4 " our voyage is in shallows and miseries." —I am, &c., Elector.
