THICK FOG IN WELLINGTON HARBOR.

WELLINGTON, January 24. A thick fog hung over the entrance of the harbor this morning, and the steamers entering the harbor had difficulty in ascertaining thrir position. One or two of tli6 vessels had narrow escapes, the fog only lifting when the steamers were on the rocks. Though it was brilliant sunshine in town all day, the fog was thick both at Island Bay and at the Heads, and the steamer Eotomahana, which left for south this afternoon, had to anchor near the pilot station for two hours.
