Sir, — I am one of those who believe that it would add greatly to tbe benefit of the colony if a f^real many of those men who luye had tlio honor of being m:i<k' .1 Justice at tlie Peace would resign tbat honor and let law and justice al<iU(>. Take, for instanco, one or two of the late cases beard at Hawera, before Messrs. Dive and Marcbaut. In tbe c.ise of Tocker v. Ht-ndy. the justices in their wisdom ruled that Mr. Tocker, tbe lauger, was entitled to recover driving fceß for cattle; the full amount for two miles just tbe same as if he had driven them twenty miles or more to the pound. I would not trouble you about the impounding business at all; but I have been told that the Hawera Road Board will be called upon in a 6hort time to defend three or four of those inponndmg cases in a court of law. As a ratepayer I consider, the Road Board ought to bear iv mind the late case Hawke v. Road Board, nod aco that their servants did their duty, and no more. — I am, &c, Ratepayer.
