At an influentially-attended meeting of the Wool-growers' Association, held here on Wednesday, there appeared to he a general opinion that no time should he lost in fencing the rabbits which are in the Amuri district, out of Canterbury, pending the passing ot the bill enabling the Rabbit Board to levy rates. Many of those present expressed their willingness to contribute Id or Hd per sheep to establish a fund for the purpose. It was estimated that the amount thus represented in the room would be about £800.
The directors of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company have received advices from Rotokautuka that the bore on Friday last was down 430 feet, and that the drill was 258 feet in advance of the pipes, with a fair show of oil. The quantity of gas in the bore is sufficient to support a continuous flame when ignited.
