OPENING OF MOTUROA RAILWAY.

The following letter has been handed to us for publication by the Mayor :— O. E. Major, Esq., Mayor, Hawera.

Dear Sir. — The official opening of the Moturoa line of railway will take place on tbe 24th instant, when a special excursion train will run from Patea to Now Plymouth. I have also made application for free trains to the breakwater, which I have no doubt will be granted, and I sincerely trust that a great number of people will avail themselves of the opportunity of making a personal inspection of the works under construction in order to judge for themselves of their utility. The direct Sydney steamer Wakatipu unfortunately calls on the 23rd, but the Hawea will be at the breakwater on tbe 24th, and I believe the agent intends (circumstances permitting) to give tbe visitors a trip to sea for an hour or two, which may be the means of inducing more to attend. Of course we cannot say definitely that it will take place, as it depends in tbe firsc place on the weather, and secondly, on the amount of cargo be has to discbarge, but I think the eecond would stand very little in the way. Hoping to see as many as can make it convenient to attend on tbe occasion, — I am, &c, Jas. Paul.
