MEAT FREEZING- WORKS AT WAITARA.
On Monday last, the Chairman of the Harbor Board received a telegram from Mr. Joseph Banks, manager of the Auckland Meat Freezing Company, stating that, after inspecting Moturoa, Waitara, and places along the railway line southward, he had come to the conclusion that Waitara was the place at which the Meat Freezing Works should be erected. If facilities were not offered at Waitara, Stratford would be tbe chosen place. Mr. Banks' telegram stated it was desirable that the works should be in close proximity to tbe railway station, and for that reason preferred acquiring land on the west siJe of the river. Mr. Joll did not see what was to prevent tbe Harboii Board giving a- good site on the west side of the river, particularly when Mr. Banks' telegram stated that no offensive smell would emanate from the proposed works. Resolved, That, in reply to Mr. Banks' telegram, the Board are willing to give every facility, on either side of the river. Messrs. Banks and Auckland arrived in Waitara on Thursday, and interviewed the Harbor Board, with the result that arrangements were completed whereby tbe Meat Freezing Company have taken over two sections on the west bank of the river, and purpose starting operations in six weeks' time. Arrangements have also been made with tbe Harbor Board for suitable paddocking, situate about half-a-mile from the river. — Waitara Press.
