MISCELLANEOUS.
Christchurch. Butter. — The demand for Australia has improved during the month, and prices have hardened, quotations now standing at 9d to lOd for prime, and 8d to 9d for medium. Cheese meets with but little inquiry, and sales are most difficult to effect. Every steamer fitted with cool chambers carries some parcels on consignment to the London market, whither the bulk of this season's make must go in the absence of any other outlet. Prices are nominally . 4d to 5d per lb. Auckland. Butter. — Large purchases have been made for shipment to Sydney. Last week some GOO kegs were forwarded by the Eingarooma to that port, encouraging ! advices having been received. This has given an upward tendency to prices, and rates can be quoted at fn>rn 7Jd to 7£d per lb. Cheese. — Local factories are keeping us in full supply, and, as production is larger than consumption, a considerable quantity is beiug exported to Australian ports. We quote at from 5M to Gd, per lb. Hops. — Sales are extremely low ; a first-class last year's sample is dull at from 9£d to lOd. Oamabu. Potatoes. — Market dull ; supplies are not likely to be heavy, 60 that we may " look for fair prices later in the season. Nelson. Malt. — The price quoted is merely nominal, as stocks are now cleared and the new season has not yet commenced. Hops. — Picking has commenced daring the past week in a few gardens, but will not be general for some little time. It is now nearly certain that the yield will be less than even our worst fears predicted, probably not more than half of last year's. On the other hand, the quality generally will be quite up to last season's. The market is expected to open at lOd to Is.
