The second class carriage, which was the next tender of the passenger train and was smashed to pieces, contained twenty passengers, nearly all of whom were injured, some being pinned to their seats by broken timber. The engines of both trams have been rendered useless by the collision, and great damage has been done ' to the rolling stock. It has been ascertained that the stationmaster at Werribee was absent at a concert when the collision occurred.
