ELTHAM.

(FBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

A meeting of settlers around Eltham, interested in having a school established there, took place on Saturday, night, at the Mangawhero Hotel. The meeting was well attended, upwards of 20 settlers being present, and considerable interest was manifested. On the motion of Mr. Preston, Mr. Brace was called to the chair} and the meeting proceeded first to the consideration of the boundaries for the proposed new district. Owing to there being no map before the meeting of the boundaries of the Ngaire, Norman by, and Okaiawa school districts, this work waa necessarily done very much in the dark, and must in any case, and much more so in the present one, be liable to emendation at the hands of the Education Board. The following boundaries, on the motion of Mr. N. Muir, seconded by Mr. Pratt, were determined as the best to be submitted to the board :— North : Conns, cation line, where eastern boundary of section 45, block 10, Ngaire, cats it, and southern boundary of Ngaire school district to Waingongoro river ; said river to Cornwall road ; said road and boundary^ of block 9, Ngaire, to Hunter road. West :* Hunter road to Skeet road. Southland East: Skeet road, Boylan road, Mountain road ; boundary of block 10, Ngaire ; eastern boundary of sections 51, 46, and 45, to starting point. Proposed by Mr. Trengrove, and seconded by Mr. Jenkins, That a list of the children of school age within the proposed boundaries, be Submitted td the board. Mr. N. Mriir, who had been at considerable painjj to do so, furnished a list to the meeting, which is probably approximately CQrrect, making a total of— withiii school age, 01 ; under school age, 36. The announcement of those figures' was received with considerable' satisfaction. It may be stated, however, that two families wbioh are sectioned in are not aotmiHy located- as yet within the district, klthough their doing so it understood to be- almost an accomplished fact : tbeyareJtbjflfcrpf/Mi?,} . It was proposed by Mr. Ifuir, and eattied, that th« ehairmaa be requested to for* ward the memorial to the Education Board.
