TARANAKI SUPREME COURT.
(from our own correspondent.)
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.
James Young Henry was convicted of inflicting a wound on a man's head, under great provocation ; and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. It is uncertain when Gallagher's case will be called, another witness having arrived, who states that he saw the Maori lying on his back at 6 p.m. on the Manawapou Hill, apparently dead. Pannell, charged with indecent assault on Mrs. Daniells, was acquitted. The judge, in discharging the accused, said it was the first time he had ever heard of a man getting off so easily who had been found in the bed of a respectable woman, a stranger to him. Later. In the Supreme Oourt, after the Judge had taken iris seat this morning, the Crown Prosecutor intimated that he intended to ask permission to enter a nolle proseque in the cases of Titokowaru and Rangi, charged under the West Coast Settlement Act. The Judge said he would look into the matter, and let him know during tho course of the day. Edward Spackman was then charged with stealing a horse from a native at Kaupokanui, and the case is proceeding.
