HUTT UNITED CLUB

The formation of the Hutt United Softball Club was undertaken by Messrs. M. Hutton and D. Jackson, and at the first general meeting the following officers were 'elected: Patron, Mr. C. Odlin; president, Mr. N. T. Gillespie; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Emerson, M. Power, J. Duncan, B. Matthews, F. Pye, F. Elbe, J. Stratford, J. Evans, M. Hutton, R. Bradley, E. Pirie, G. Mouat, J. Croft, N. Liebezelt, A. Smith, T: Glasspole and J. E. Bentley. With the increase in popularity of Softball the club, which started with an initial membership of nine players in April, now has a total membership of 4 0 players, which equals four teams. These teams are affiliated to the Hutt Valley Association in the Senior A Second Division, Senior B and Junior A and B grades.

The club's thanks go to all supporters and the management committee for enabling it to take the field fully equipped and uniformed on the opening day of the competitions.

Outstanding players on this day were G. Bradley, who, as opening bat in the senior A team, made home base on bis first hit, and in the senior B team J. Walker as catcher and B. At a' meeting of the executive of the Hutt Valley Softball Association a committee was set up to deal with foul play, and it was decided ■ to enforce the following:—Any player found guilty of foul play will be barred from softball games organised by the Association. Hutt and Railways senior A men's teams played a good game on the Speedway on Saturday evening, and although the "ball and ground were very heavy put up a grand showing. Next week Senior A Women and again Railways and Hutt will play a game at the Speedway.
