Disappointed Scouts
JAMBOREE IN AUSTRALIA Plans have been afoot fpr many months to send a contingent of 150 to represent New Zealand at the PanPacific Scout Jamboree, to be held at Yarra Brae, twenty miles from Melbourne, from December 2 9 to January 9. There were hopes of passages on the Wanganella and the Monowai. The Monowai dropped out of the picture recently when it was announced that reconversion delays in Australia would prevent her being ready before February. Since then hopes have been pinned on the Wanganella; but the lengthening delay in getting her back in the Tasman service and the accumulation of bookings have caused the owners to notify Boy Scout Headquarters that the allocation of berths to the contingent would have to be reduced to 20. ■
After exploring the possibility of chartering two Skymaster airliners to carry 88 of the contingent to Australia between December 2G and 28, an idea which was abandoned on the score of cost, it was decided to send a token contingent on the Wanganella.
