Y.W.C.A. Greek Night
SOCIAL AND EXHIBITION More than 100 members and friends of the Hutt Valley Y.W.C.A. enjoyed the social and exhibition of Greek curios which was held at Woburn Hostels as part of the World Fellowship Week. Greece was the country chosen to study by the Hutt Valley Y.W.C.A. and the interpretation of the history and the people of that country was ably demonstrated by the exhibition, which included many finely-woven cloths, all exquisitely embroidered by hand, hand-wrought silver, jewellery, pottery and water colours depicting life. A special feature of the exhibition was the excellent collection of books lent by the National Library loan collection through the Lower Hutt Municipal Library.
Mr. D. G. McNab endeared the Greek people to the gathering by telling of his associations with them during his escape from the Germans in the last world war, after giving a brief history of the country. To follow this talk a group of Greek dancers from Wellington presented several dances in national costume.
Miss A. L. Burton, national general secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, told how the Y.W.C.A. in Greece is building a training college for the training of social workers and how the Y.W.C.A.s in New Zealand are particularly interested in this project.
A play of international significance, "The Builder of Bridges," was presented by the members of the Y.W.C.A. club groups. An unusual supper, including several Greek dishes, was a feature of the social, hostesses for which were members of the World Fellowship, with Miss Beryle White, the Y.W.C.A. director of activities.
