CROQUET CLUBS
(To tlie Editor.) Sir, —Your correspondent “Wondering” surely has a complex which needs immediate attention by a mental specialist. Personally I do not play croquet, but as a frequent visitor to Riddiford Park it is a pleasure to see mothers of families taking part in such healthful exercise in the open air, for those who wish to avail themselves of it.
“Wondering” talks nonsense when he says the children are crowded into a small space. It is obvious that the only part of the area which attracts them is the amusements. The tendency today is to allow children to “run wild,” and I have witnessed them riding bicycles and tricycles over the flower beds and doing material damage. Perhaps thinks the flower beds shouldn’t he there either. I assume the women pay a fee for the use of the lawns, thereby relieving the rates to an appreciable amount. I certainly hope that the City Fathers will, when opportunity offers, provide even greater facilities for those who have done their duty to the nation to take part in opeuair exercises. Is it not better to provide recreation for all ages than to fill all the beds in our hospitals'? ■—l am, etc.,
