Major-General Sir Howard Kippenberger, who was knighted in the recent King’s Birthday Honours, and Lady Kippcnberger were honoured at a gathering of members of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Returned Services Association on Thursday. * # * * Mr. B. V. Cooksley, of Lower Hutt, has been re-elected president of the Dominion Council of Commercial Gardeners for the tenth year in succession. Mr. C. E. Bertlesen (Hutt Valley) has been elected vicepresident. *
Mr. N. T. Gillespie has been appointed to speak on behalf of the Hutt Rotary Club and the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce at the public farewell to Mr. A. McFadyen, retiring principal of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College at Petone.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Webster leave this week by air for a two months’ winter holiday in Fiji and Samoa.
Mr. H. V. Horlor has been made a co-opt member of the council of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Members stated that Mr. Horlor’s services to the Chamber have been very valuable in the past.
The resignation of Mr. Maurice Ralph owing to his departure from Lower Hutt was received with regret at the last meeting of the council of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry. • » * Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warder, of Stokes Valley, home, accompanied by Miss Joyce Cole, after an extensive tour of England and' Scotland. Miss Cole expects to resume her nursing duties shortly.
Mr. Guy V. Marriner, who has returned to New Zealand op holiday after an absence of 2 8 years, is lecturer in music at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Mr. Marriner, who is an Aucklander, was well known as St concert pianist before leaving New Zealand, and toured Britain and the Continent before settling in the United States.
Mr. K. A. Hamilton, of Lower Hutt, has been admitted to the New Zealand Society of Accountants with the status of Associate Registered Accountant (A.R.A.N’.Z.). * * • Messrs. 11. G. Hume and N. E. Hampson-Tindale, of Lower Hutt, have been appointed members of the game committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society.
Mr. O. Silbery, secretary of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Board, has been elected to the executive of the New Zealand Gas Association.
Mr, E. Farley, who recently came from England to act as producer to the Canterbury Repertory Society, will judge the plays at the British Drama League’s festival in Dunedin in July. Fourteen plays have been entered.
Mr. J. Jardin, who is president of the Hutt Valley Indoor Bowls Association, is leaving Lower Hutt to reside in Westport.
Mr. J. A. Nash, of Palmerston North, has been nominated by the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board as president of the New Zealand Powei Boards’ Association for the ensuing year. • * • Mr. A. W. Mills, of Petone, was elected district chief ranger at the 75th annual meeting of the Wellington District Ancient Order of Foresters. Mr. L. C. Clarke, of Petone, was elected district junior Woodward.
